The areal coverage is defined as the proportion of a pixel area occupied by Sargassum mats. Here the pixel area is ∼25 × 25 km. e Monthly mean time series of Sargassum biomass estimated from MODIS and obtained from a NEMO-Sarg simulation averaged from 100°W to 0°E and from 0°S to 30°N.
