A cMRD percentage is calculated for test samples in two stages. First, immature blasts are identified either manually or through a GMM classifier. From the GMM classifier, the WBC count can also be inferred, but can also be determined using a manual gate. Next, a reference model trained on control blasts identifies leukemic blasts through novelty detection. These predicted blasts can be validated by experts, and together with the WBC count as a denominator is used to calculate a cMRD%.
