Extended Data Table 2 Sub-Sample Analysis: DiD Estimates on the Impact of BTO Launching on Upward Mobility of Children

From: Affordable public housing and intergenerational mobility

  1. The sub-sample is restricted to Chinese families with 1-2 children. Their housing prices are either above-median HDB price (treatment group), or below-median private property price (control group), to be more comparable. Additional regressors include dummy variables indicating after 2004 and the housing status of parents. Standard errors are clustered at parents’ neighborhood level, as the sample is restricted to a smaller sample with homogeneous Chinese families with 1-2 children. Years are restricted to before 2007 to exclude potential contamination from the 2008-2009 Financial Crisis. Children are restricted to be at least 30 years old in the latest wave, and parents are at most 65 years old in the first wave. “After BTO scheme” is defined as a dummy variable equal to 1 if the year is later than or equal to 2004 and 0 otherwise. Region is classified as core central region (CCR), other central region (OCR), and rest of central region (RCR). *** p < 0.01, ** p < 0.05, * p < 0.1.
