Across scenarios (a–f), the capacities of wind \({{\boldsymbol{C}}}^{{\boldsymbol{wind}}}\), PV \({{\boldsymbol{C}}}^{{\boldsymbol{PV}}}\) and the electrolyser \({{\boldsymbol{C}}}^{{\boldsymbol{el}}}\) are optimized (labelled as “Opt”), with the exception of scenario (d), in which these capacities are prescribed (labelled as “Fixed”) rather than determined by optimization. Subsequent processes including compression, storage, and transport, are optimized consistently across all scenarios, with the capacity of hydrogen storage optimized in each case.
