This Collection provides updated research from the Ordered States in Kagome Metals collection.

Kagome metals are composed of two-dimensional networks of corner-sharing triangles and are theoretically predicted to exhibit a distinctive interplay between topologically nontrivial electronic band structures and correlation-driven ordered states. These materials exhibit a variety of emergent phenomena, including unconventional superconductivity, charge density waves, various types of ordered states, and correlated topological phases. Recent studies have made significant progress in identifying and characterizing electronic symmetries in kagome metal compounds exhibiting strong interaction effects, offering the potential to engineer novel quantum states and high potential of their applications in cutting –edge technology. Correlations arising from band filling and magnetic interactions near flat bands and saddle points in the kagome electronic structure provide a particularly fertile platform for exploring emergent phenomena in these materials. This collection focuses on the study of broken symmetries and the unconventional ordered states in the rapidly growing field of kagome metals, with potential applications in cutting-edge technology.

The topics will include, but are not limited to:

  • Theoretical understanding of quantum phenomena in kagome metals
  • Experimental demonstration of new quantum states or phenomena in kagome metals
  • Engineering of new kagome metal that lead to novel properties
  • Investigation of the interplay between various phases of kagome metals
  • Symmetry breaking and its manifestations in kagome metals
  • Applications of kagome metals in advancing cutting-edge technology

The Collection will publish original research Articles, Reviews, Perspectives and Comments (full details on content types can be found here). Papers will be published in npj Quantum Materials as soon as they are accepted and then collected together and promoted on the Collection homepage. All Guest Edited Collections are associated with a call for papers and are managed by one or more of our Editorial Board Members and the journal's Editors.

This Collection welcomes submissions from all authors – and not by invitation only – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of npj Quantum Materials more generally. See our editorial process page for more details.

All submissions are subject to the same peer review process and editorial standards as regular npj Quantum Materials articles, including the journal’s policy on competing interests. The Guest Editors have no competing interests with the submissions, which they handle through the peer-review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Guest Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests. See our Collections guidelines for more details.
