Aims & Scope
npj Emerging Contaminants considers research that explores all aspects of the sources, behaviors, and impacts of emerging contaminants (ECs), including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, industrial chemicals, surfactants, personal care products, and micro-/nano-plastics.
This journal aims to advance our understanding of known or suspected adverse planetary health effects caused by ECs, which contributes to substantially reducing the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and contamination.
This journal covers a broad range of topics including but not limited to:
- Production, use, and environmental release of ECs
- Advances in the detection and analysis of ECs
- Distribution and fate of ECs
- Risks of ECs to planetary health
- Model-based assessment of fate and toxicological risks of ECs
- Global efforts to control ECs
The journal offers more choice to Nature Portfolio authors who are seeking a fully open-access and more inclusive platform for publishing their work. The journal is led by emerging contaminants experts who collaborate to cultivate high-quality research. As part of the npj Series, this journal focuses on fostering global partnerships with the research community and other Springer Nature journals.
