The International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG) is delighted to announce that npj Primary Care Respiratory Medicine has achieved Q1 ranking in both Primary Care and Respiratory System categories with a 2024 Journal Impact Factor of 4.7, an increase of 52%, marking a significant milestone for the journal and the global primary care respiratory community.
This achievement comes as the journal transitions to become the official publication of the IPCRG, reflecting our commitment to advancing evidence-based respiratory care in primary healthcare settings worldwide.
Recognition from Global Health Leadership
José Luis Castro, WHO Director-General Special Envoy for Chronic Respiratory Diseases, commented:
"Encouraging news for the global respiratory community: The npj Primary Care Respiratory Medicine journal—now the official publication of the International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG)—has been ranked Q1 in both primary care and respiratory care, with a strong Impact Factor of 4.7. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the growing recognition of primary care's central role in advancing respiratory health worldwide.
Warm congratulations to the dedicated team behind this success. And sincere thanks to the many authors whose contributions have made this possible.
For researchers, clinicians, and policymakers working to improve respiratory outcomes, this journal offers timely, peer-reviewed insights into what works—and how it can be implemented at scale.
We must continue to elevate chronic respiratory diseases on the global health agenda and support platforms like this that bring science, practice, and policy together."
Editorial Excellence
This milestone reflects the outstanding leadership of Editor-in-Chief Ioanna Tsiligianni and our dedicated Associate Editors: Niels H. Chavannes, Ee Ming Khoo, Job van Boven, Nicola Roberts, Evangelos Kritsotakis, Tiago Maricoto, Gillian Doe, Holly Tibble, and Hilary Pinnock. Their commitment to rigorous peer review and scientific excellence has positioned the journal as the premier destination for primary care respiratory research.
Enhanced Journal Standards
This achievement is particularly significant as it occurs during the 50th anniversary year of the Journal Citation Reports, when Clarivate has strengthened the Journal Impact Factor methodology to exclude citations to retracted content, reinforcing the JIF as a marker of both impact and trustworthiness.
Looking Forward
As the official journal of IPCRG and its 41 country members (recently welcoming Peru and Uruguay), npj Primary Care Respiratory Medicine continues to serve as the essential platform for publishing peer-reviewed research that demonstrates what works in respiratory care and how it can be implemented globally.
We extend our gratitude to all authors, reviewers, and readers who have contributed to this success, and we remain committed to publishing research that drives meaningful improvements in respiratory health outcomes worldwide.
