Room-temperature phosphorescence and anomalous piezochromism in molecular crystals enabled by iodine atomic orbital sharing

Modulating room-temperature phosphorescence requires regulating energy and coupling of electronic states. Here the authors show how pressure blue-shifts and enhances emission in molecular crystals by inducing atomic orbital sharing of iodine atoms.

Enhancement of short/medium-range order and thermal conductivity in ultrahard sp³ amorphous carbon by C₇₀ precursor

sp³ amorphous carbon exhibits exceptional mechanical, thermal, and optical properties, but cannot be synthesized using traditional processes. Here authors report a nearly pure sp³−hybridized amorphous carbon synthesized from C₇₀ which shows more short/medium-range order and enhanced thermal conductivity compared to C₆₀.

Ultrahard bulk amorphous carbon from collapsed fullerene

Preparing amorphous phases of carbon with mostly sp³ bonding in bulk is challenging, but macroscopic samples that are nearly pure sp³ are synthesized here by heating fullerenes at high pressure.

Molecular insertion regulates the donor-acceptor interactions in cocrystals for the design of piezochromic luminescent materials

The design of piezochromic luminescent materials with desirable stimuliresponsive properties remains challenging. Here, the authors report the insertion of a non-emissive molecule into a donor and acceptor binary cocrystal and realize desirable piezochromic luminescent properties by manipulation of intermolecular interactions between the donor and acceptor molecules.

Tuning vision foundation models for rectal cancer segmentation from CT scans

Zhang et al. construct a large-scale CT image dataset with fine pixel-level annotations for both normal tissue and rectal cancer tumors. Additionally, they propose a clinically applicable method named U-SAM to assist doctors in segmenting normal tissues and rectal cancer areas and validate its effectiveness.
