The rational design of the nanozyme second coordination sphere to possess more enzyme-like characteristics is desirable but remains challenging. Here, the authors report a nanozyme featuring atomically dispersed Cu-N4 sites with proximal hydroxyl groups (CuNC-OH), where they respectively behave as a cofactor and amino acid of enzymatic pocket to interact with adsorbates, regulating activity and inhibition.
