The rise of bacterial resistance necessitates the discovery of novel antibiotics, particularly the last-resort glycopeptide antibiotics (GPAs). Here, the authors identify a unique biosynthetic gene cluster in Actinokineospora auranticolor, leading to the discovery of kineomicins, a new class of GPAs with high production potential.
