In-gap quasiparticle excitations induced by non-magnetic Cu impurities in Na(Fe_0.96Co_0.03Cu_0.01)As revealed by scanning tunnelling spectroscopy

In superconductors with sign-preserving pairing symmetries, Cooper pairs break when they scatter off magnetic impurities but not non-magnetic impurities. An observation of pair breaking by copper impurities in Na(Fe_0.96Co_0.03Cu_0.01)As demonstrates that its pairing symmetry is sign-reversed.

Close relationship between superconductivity and the bosonic mode in Ba_0.6K_0.4Fe₂As₂ and Na(Fe_0.975Co_0.025)As

Different experimental probes have found different bosonic modes in the iron-based superconductors. A scanning tunnelling spectroscopy study of two separate superconductors now links the tunnelling mode with the ‘neutron resonance’, both of which vanish when superconductivity disappears.

Mapping dysfunctional circuits in the frontal cortex using deep brain stimulation

Hollunder et al. identify networks where deep brain stimulation reduces symptoms for Parkinson’s disease, Tourette’s syndrome, dystonia and obsessive-compulsive disorder. This revealed a fronto-rostral topography that segregates the frontal cortex.

Influence of microstructure on superconductivity in K_xFe_2−ySe₂ and evidence for a new parent phase K₂Fe₇Se₈

The structure of the superconducting phase of iron-based superconductor K_xFe_2−ySe₂ is difficult to determine because it coexists with an predominant insulating phase. Ding et al. identify the superconducting filaments that provide clues to the structure of the parent phase of superconductivity.

Scrutinizing the double superconducting gaps and strong coupling pairing in (Li_1−xFe_x)OHFeSe

Whilst superconductivity is understood to emerge when electronic pairing allows for conduction without resistance, the mechanism at work in Fe-based superconductors is unclear.
