The instability and sluggish kinetics of conventional Cu single-atom catalysts inhibit their industrial deployment in CO2-to-methane conversion. Here, the authors propose a d-orbital engineering strategy to construct localized Cu sites, achieving stable industrial-level electrocatalytic methanation.
