Photochemical spin-state control of binding configuration for tailoring organic color center emission in carbon nanotubes

Chemical functionalization of the sidewalls of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is an emerging route to introduce fluorescent quantum defects and tailor the emission properties. Here, authors demonstrate that spin-selective photochemistry diversifies SWCNT emission tunability by controlling the morphology of the emitting sites.

Lifetime blinking in nonblinking nanocrystal quantum dots

Nanocrystal quantum dots can exhibit photoluminescence blinking, where the intensity of the emitted light fluctuates due to random charging and discharging. Gallandet al.study thick shell nanocrystals and find that the photoluminescence lifetime can also undergo blinking, without intensity changes.

Site-controlled telecom-wavelength single-photon emitters in atomically-thin MoTe₂

Single-photon emitters in 2D semiconductors hold promise for quantum applications, but usually operate in the 500-800 nm wavelength range. Here, the authors report site-controlled creation of quantum emitters in the telecommunication wavelength window by coupling 2D MoTe2 to strain inducing nano-pillar arrays.

Tunable room-temperature single-photon emission at telecom wavelengths from sp³ defects in carbon nanotubes

Single-photon emission with 99% purity is generated from sp³ defects in carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by optical excitation at room temperature. By increasing the CNT diameter from 0.76 nm to 0.94 nm, the emission wavelength can be changed from 1,100 nm to 1,600 nm.

Narrow-band single-photon emission through selective aryl functionalization of zigzag carbon nanotubes

Aryl functionalization of carbon nanotubes generates sp³ defects capable of quantum light emission. A multiplicity of possible binding configurations, however, leads to spectrally diverse emission bands. Now, it is shown that the structural symmetry of zigzag nanotubes and a high chemical selectivity for ortho configurations results in defect-state emission from a single narrow band.

Using shape to turn off blinking for two-colour multiexciton emission in CdSe/CdS tetrapods

CdSe/CdS tetrapods exhibit the unusual trait of two-colour multiexcitonic emission. Here Mishraet al. study this type of dual emission at the single-nanocrystal level. By tuning arm diameter and length they seek to understand shape-dependent evolution of the emission and of blinking behaviour.

Proximity-induced chiral quantum light generation in strain-engineered WSe₂/NiPS₃ heterostructures

Proximity-induced chiral quantum emission is generated by applying nanoindentation on monolayer WSe₂ on an antiferromagnetic van der Waals material (NiPS₃) at zero external magnetic fields, reporting a degree of circular polarization of 0.89 and a single-photon purity of 95%.
