Quantum confinement of the Dirac surface states in topological-insulator nanowires

In topological insulator nanowires quantized Dirac sub-bands are expected, but direct evidence is still missing. Here, the authors report signatures of sub-bands in the gate-voltage dependence of the resistance by tuning the chemical potential in (Bi_1−xSb_x)₂Te₃ nanowires through the Dirac point.

Long-range crossed Andreev reflection in a topological insulator nanowire proximitized by a superconductor

Crossed Andreev reflection is an important process for using the inherent entanglement within a Cooper pair. Now this effect has been observed in a topological insulator nanowire, which has implications for topological quantum computing.

Non-reciprocal transport in a homogeneous material enables controllable current rectification, but is usually very small. Yet, artificially breaking inversion symmetry in topological insulator nanowires yields a giant magnetochiral anisotropy rectification.

Induced superconducting correlations in a quantum anomalous Hall insulator

The superconducting proximity effect has not been experimentally demonstrated in a quantum anomalous Hall insulator. Now this effect is observed in the chiral edge state of a ferromagnetic topological insulator.

Signatures of a magnetic-field-induced Lifshitz transition in the ultra-quantum limit of the topological semimetal ZrTe₅

The ultra-quantum limit refers to the high magnetic-field regime where electrons are confined to the lowest Landau level and is most easily reached in topological semimetals due to their low carrier density. Here, the authors study this regime in the Dirac semimetal ZrTe₅ and find evidence for a Lifshitz transition at moderate field, leading to the emergence of a 1D-Weyl band structure at high field.

Planar Hall effect from the surface of topological insulators

Topological surface states can lose their protection in many ways but the subtle mechanisms remain far from well understood. Here, Taskin et al. report a novel planar Hall effect in dual-gated Bi_2−xSb_xTe₃ thin films, originating from anisotropic lifting of time reversal symmetry protection by an in-plane magnetic field.
