Magnesium has a higher volumetric energy density than lithium but it is difficult to facilitate fast ionic conductivity in the solid state for multivalent cations. Here, solid solutions of Mg(BH4)2 ∙ NH3 and Mg(BH4)2 ∙ CH3NH2 with mixed ligand systems are shown to increase cationic conductivity.
