Current positron emission tomography (PET) techniques overlook the life history of positrons before annihilation, missing potential insights into tissue microenvironments. Here, the authors introduce SIMPLE, an image reconstruction method, achieving high-resolution positron lifetime imaging on a time-of-flight PET scanner, offering new avenues for disease monitoring and treatment assessment.
