Programming magnetic anisotropy in polymeric microactuators

Superparamagnetic nanoparticles under an external magnetic field align in the field’s direction to minimize magnetic-dipole interactions. By modulating and fixing the alignment of magnetic nanoparticles in polymeric microcomponents through photopolymerization, magnetic nanocomposite microactuators were programmed to undergo complex motion, such as anisotropic bending and crawling.

High-selectivity room-temperature partial oxidation of methane to methanol enabled by electrochemical oxygen promotion on IrO₂ catalysts

The electrochemical oxidation of methane is a promising process but controlling its selectivity for a partial oxidation product such as methanol is very challenging. Now a strategy to convert methane into methanol with high selectivity is demonstrated, using an IrO₂ catalyst and CO₃²⁻ in the electrolyte as the oxygen source.

Fucosylated haptoglobin promotes inflammation via Mincle in sepsis: an observational study

Haptoglobin (Hp) scavenges cell-free haemoglobin and is associated with the prognosis of human sepsis. Here, the authors characterize the association of fucosylated Hp in sepsis progression and identify a macrophage population expressing a receptor for fucosylated Hp, highlighting its inflammation-amplifying effects in in vitro human cell cultures and in vivo using a mouse model.

Robust genome editing activity and the applications of enhanced miniature CRISPR-Cas12f1

Although compact Un1Cas12f1 has improved, low gene editing activity was observed in some target genes. Here, authors developed eCas12f1, which exhibits similar cleavage activity to SpCas9 and can be effectively applied in targeted therapy, demonstrating its potential as a powerful gene editing tool.

Colour-barcoded magnetic microparticles for multiplexed bioassays

Biochemical assays that use magnetic beads are at present in frequent use. Colour-barcoded magnetic microparticles have now been created without using multiple pigmentations. The coding capacity far exceeds that of alternative spectral encoding systems and is demonstrated in a practical bioassay for DNA detection and identification.
