An electrostatic model for the determination of magnetic anisotropy in dysprosium complexes

Understanding the anisotropic electronic structure of lanthanide complexes is useful for a range of advanced applications. Here, the authors present a simple electrostatic method, capable of predicting the magnetic anisotropy of low-symmetry mononuclear and polynuclear dysprosium(III) complexes.

Four-electron reduction of benzene by a samarium(ii)-alkyl without the addition of external reducing agents

Benzene reduction by molecular complexes remains a considerable synthetic challenge, and typically requires harsh reaction conditions involving group I metals. Now it has been shown that a highly polar organometallic samarium alkyl complex enables the reduction of benzene to its tetra-anion without the need for a group I metal.

Isolation and electronic structures of derivatized manganocene, ferrocene and cobaltocene anions

Unlike ferrocene and its cationic counterpart ferrocenium, the ferrocene monoanion is an unusual species that has been observed through low-temperature electrochemical studies. Now, a family of isostructural 3d metallocenates has been isolated that consists of a manganocene, a cobaltocene and a high-spin ferrocene anion stabilized by cyclopentadienyl ligands bearing bulky aliphatic groups.

DNA methylation clocks tick in naked mole rats but queens age more slowly than nonbreeders

Naked mole rat (NMR) is an exceptionally long-lived rodent species that on the phenotypic level seems to evade aging. Here the authors show that NMRs age epigenetically, while epigenetic clocks detect that NMR queens age more slowly than nonbreeding females.
