  • Neural mechanisms underlying local striatal serotonin release are not fully understood. Here authors show that striatal cholinergic interneurons drive local serotonin release by activating nicotinic receptors on serotonergic axons in the dorsal but not ventral striatum. This mechanism expands the spatial range of serotonin release and is exaggerated in a mouse model of compulsive behavior.

  • The relative degree of immunity to SARS-CoV-2 provided by combinations of natural infection, vaccination, and booster doses is unknown. Here, the authors show that infection-induced immunity provides more protection against COVID-19-related hospitalization than non-recent vaccine immunity, but less than booster vaccination.
