Park, Kim, and Moon show that the activation of caveolae, invaginations in the plasma membrane, disrupts the barrier of the EGF receptor (EGFR)-protected gut, increasing risks of mucosal infection and subsequent inflammatory stresses. This study provides mechanistic insights into the gut barrier management of inflammatory bowel disease.
