Crystallization suppression of mixed-halide intermediates for perovskite/Cu(In,Ga)Se₂ tandem solar cells with improved efficiency

The efficiency of perovskite/Cu(In,Ga)Se₂ tandem solar cells is limited by halide segregation in the perovskite layer. Zhang et al. use 2-pyrrolidinone to slow the crystallization of halide intermediates, ensuring a homogeneous distribution and achieving a power conversion efficiency of 27.3%.

Ambient solar thermal catalysis for polyolefin upcycling using copper encapsulated in silicon nanosheets and chloroaluminate ionic liquid

Solution-based methods exist to upcycle waste polyolefins, although these resort to the use of co-reactants and require non-negligible energy inputs. Here the authors show how a solar thermal catalytic system based on copper particles encapsulated within a 2D Si material can strongly alleviate such issues.

Inductive effects in molecular contacts enable wide-bandgap perovskite cells for efficient perovskite/TOPCon tandems

Self-assembled monolayers targeting wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells are essential to reduce the open-circuit voltage loss. Here, the authors report the stepwise tuning of interfacial energy level through inductive effect, achieving perovskite/TOPCon tandem solar cells with efficiency over 31%.

Low-cost synthesis of small molecule acceptors makes polymer solar cells commercially viable

The high−cost of the acceptor-donor-acceptor structured small molecule acceptors impedes its commercial viability for polymer solar cells. To address this problem, here, the authors developed a simple and cheap boron trifluoride etherate-catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation with high reaction efficiency.
