Negative magnetoresistance in Dirac semimetal Cd₃As₂

Materials with topologically non-trivial band structures promise applications exploiting exotic electronic transport behaviour. Here, the authors observe a large negative magnetoresistance in Cd₃As₂nanoribbons, evidence for a chiral transport anomaly required for its status as a Dirac semi metal.

Crossover of the three-dimensional topological insulator Bi₂Se₃ to the two-dimensional limit

The gapless surface states of topological insulators could enable quantitatively different types of electronic device. A study of the topological insulating Bi₂Se₃ thin films finds that a gap in these states opens up in films below a certain thickness. This in turn suggests that in thicker films, gapless states exist on both upper and lower surfaces.

Signatures of the Adler–Bell–Jackiw chiral anomaly in a Weyl fermion semimetal

Anomalous conducting behavior of solids may reflect the presence of novel quantum states. Here, Zhang et al. report an increased conductivity in TaAs with a magnetic field applied along the direction of the current, which reveals an inherent property of the Weyl Fermion.

Quantum geometric renormalization of the Hall coefficient and unconventional Hall resistivity in ZrTe₅

ZrTe₅ has received significant attention for it’s non-trivial topological band structure and reports of a large anomalous Hall effect despite being a nonmagnetic material. Here, using the Kubo-Streda formula the authors investigate the origins of the unconventional Hall response of ZrTe₅ in low and high magnetic fields.

Topological properties of C_4zT-symmetric semimetals

A two-dimensional semimetal is featured by its low energy physics near the degeneracy points, while the topology over the whole Brillouin zone is rarely studied. The authors find that the Brillouin zone of the C4zT symmetric semimetal is partitioned into two patches characterized by half quantized Berry curvature fluxes with opposite signs, accompanied by the topological transport phenomena.
