Structural insights into the photochemistry of the LH1–RC complex from the marine purple phototrophic bacterium Rhodovulum sulfidophilum

High-resolution cryo-EM structure of Rdv. sulfidophilum LH1-RC complex reveals insertion of a truncated fragment of NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase (Complex I) and an N-terminal transmembrane domain of three-heme cytochrome subunit into the LH1 gap, implying unexpected structural and functional implications between the LH1-RC and respiratory complex I.
