α-Oxy carbonyl compounds represent versatile building blocks and modifiers for functional molecules, but the synthetic challenges have limited their exploration in chemical biology and drug discovery. Here, the authors report a Cu-catalyzed, three-component modular strategy for the efficient construction of diverse α-oxy carbonyl compounds, which proceeds via a P(V)-oxirene intermediate.
