Intermetallic compounds of bismuth exhibit superconductivity and topological phenomena, with their formation under extreme conditions having been extensively investigated. Here, the authors report the synthesis of Mg5Bi3Hx at 4–5 GPa and 973–1273 K, observing H at partially occupied interstitial positions, following the Zintl concept.
