The immune regulatory role of mesenteric adipose tissue (MAT) during acute peritonitis remains elusive. Here, the authors employ a cecal ligation and puncture mouse model and show that a population of CD127− ILC1 migrates from the spleen to the MAT via CXCR3 – CXCL10 axis. In the MAT, these cells upregulate the expression of CD127 and PD-L1 and help preventing the progression towards sepsis, potentially by regulating TNF production by γδ T cells.
