Fluorine-free super-repellent materials provide sustainable and scalable alternatives to fluorinated counterparts by using re-entrant architectures or pairing non-fluorinated surface chemistries with hierarchical roughness. This Review highlights fundamental design principles, theoretical frameworks, emerging applications and future research opportunities.
