Insulin resistance is suggested to be a risk factor for cancer; however, large-scale epidemiological evidence remains limited. Here, the authors apply a machine learning-based prediction model of insulin resistance to the UK Biobank; they show that it outperforms other indicators at predicting diabetes incidence and is also significantly associated with an increased risk of six cancer types.
