Meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies from the CHARGE consortium identifies common variants associated with carotid intima media thickness and plaque

Joshua Bis, Christopher O'Donnell and colleagues report a meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies from the CHARGE Consortium that identifies loci associated with carotid intima media thickness and plaque. These are established measures of subclinical atherosclerosis that predict future cardiovascular disease events.

High-performance direct conversion X-ray detectors based on sintered hybrid lead triiodide perovskite wafers

Methyl ammonium lead triiodide perovskite wafers for application in direct conversion X-ray detectors are fabricated by a room-temperature sintering process. A conversion efficiency of 2,527 mC Gy_aircm^–2 under 70 kVp X-ray exposure is obtained.

Near-infrared imaging with quantum-dot-sensitized organic photodiodes

Near-infrared imaging with solution-processed organic–inorganic hybrid photodiodes is demonstrated for the first time. The hybrid bulk-heterojunction photodiodes contain PbS nanocrystalline quantum dots as sensitizers for the detection of light of up to 1.8 µm in wavelength, have a minimum lifetime of one year, and external quantum efficiencies of up to 51%.
