BATF2 is a glutamine-responsive tumour suppressor required for type-I interferon-dependent anti-tumour immunity

STING–type-I interferon pathway regulates the immunogenicity of several cancer types, including head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Here the authors describe that glutamine metabolism in the tumour microenvironment dampens the STING–type-I interferon pathway by epigenetically silencing the expression of BATF2, which functions as a tumour suppressor.

Exercise-induced histone lactylation in monocyte-derived macrophages restores cardiac immune homeostasis and function in sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy

Active lifestyle has considerable cardiac health benefits, but the metabolic and immunological background need further investigation. Here the authors show that a cardiac macrophage population, characterised by simultaneous pro-inflammatory and reparative properties, accumulate upon exercise, and these cells restore cardiac health upon transfer in a mouse model of sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy.

Drivers of the pre-season drought thresholds triggering earlier autumn foliar senescence in the Northern Hemisphere

Global warming can delay autumn leaf senescence, but warming-related droughts may cause leaves to age earlier. This study shows that pre-season droughts are associated with earlier leaf senescence across the Northern Hemisphere, with quantified drought thresholds.

Amplifying STING activation by cyclic dinucleotide–manganese particles for local and systemic cancer metalloimmunotherapy

The stimulation of interferon genes (STING) pathway with STING agonists such as cyclic dinucleotides (CDNs) has emerged as a promising immunotherapeutic approach. Here, the authors show that Mn²⁺ can amplify the STING-promoted anti-tumour immune response in challenging murine tumour models by coordinating with CDNs and self-assembling into nanoparticles that can be delivered locally and systemically.
