Actinide metallacyclic chemistry is of interest since it is involved in various chemical processes but fundamental understanding of actinide metallacyclopropynes as key species remains limited. Here the authors report a thorium metallacyclopropyne complex in the gas phase by using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and density functional theory calculations.
