Blood DNA virome associates with autoimmune diseases and COVID-19

Analysis of the blood DNA virome in patients with COVID-19 and autoimmune disease associates endogenous HHV-6 (eHHV-6) and high anellovirus load with increased disease risk, most notably for systemic lupus erythematosus. eHHV-6 carriers show a distinct immune response.

SWI/SNF ATPase silenced HLF potentiates lung metastasis in solid cancers

Supramolecular copolymerization driven by integrative self-sorting of hydrogen-bonded rosettes

The accessory lentiviral protein X (Vpx) of the SIV_smm/mac and HIV-2 lineage targets the host-restriction factor SAMHD1 for proteasomal degradation. C-Glycoside metabolism in the gut and in nature: Identification, characterization, structural analyses and distribution of C-C bond-cleaving enzymes

In C-glycosides the sugar moiety is linked through a carbon-carbon bond to the non-sugar moiety, which can be cleaved by intestinal microbes. Here, the authors use bioinformatics analysis to identify C-glycoside deglycosidase enzymes in intestinal and soil bacteria, biochemically characterise them and determine their structures and probe catalytic important residues in mutagenesis experiments.

Identification of a link between Wnt/β-catenin signalling and the cell fusion pathway

Cell fusion is involved in many different cellular processes including the fusion of trophoblast cells in the placenta. Matsuuraet al. identify a role for the β-catenin signalling pathway in the regulation of the transcription factor GCM1 and therefore the fusion of syncytiotrophoblast cells.
