PABPC1 SUMOylation enhances cell survival by promoting mitophagy through stabilizing U-rich mRNAs within stress granules

Poly(A)-Binding Protein Cytoplasmic 1 (PABPC1) is a crucial component of stress granules. Here, the authors show that PABPC1 undergoes SUMOylation in response to cellular stress, enhancing the stability of mitophagy-related gene transcripts to promote cancer cell survival.

Hypoxia regulates overall mRNA homeostasis by inducing Met¹-linked linear ubiquitination of AGO2 in cancer cells

Met¹-linked linear ubiquitination (M¹-Ubi) is catalyzed by linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex (LUBAC). Here the authors show that Ago2 protein is M¹-Ubi modified by LUBAC complex under hypoxia condition leading to less association of miRNA target mRNAs to Ago2 protein and de-repression of miRNA targets.

Exome sequencing of gastric adenocarcinoma identifies recurrent somatic mutations in cell adhesion and chromatin remodeling genes

Patrick Tan, Bin Tean Teh, Steve Rozen and colleagues report recurrent somatic mutations in the cell-adhesion gene FAT4 and the chromatin-remodeling gene ARID1A in gastric adenocarcinomas. Their data suggest that FAT4 functions as a tumor suppressor by maintaining proper cell adhesion and preventing malignant cell migration.
