Complex polar topological configurations underpin exotic phases in condensed-matter physics, but controlled design of magnetically and electrically polar textures has remained a major challenge. Authors report a new mesophase with unipolar and bipolar orders that enables defect-free, large-scale polar patterning, demonstrated by generating second-harmonic vector beams in a single micrometer-thin liquid crystal device.
