Synergetic coordination- and catecholamine surface chemistry was developed to construct an adhesive nitric oxide generating coating with copper-catecholic-selenocystamine framework through a simple one-step molecule/ion co-assembling process. The copper-catecholic-selenocystamine framework provides glutathione peroxidase (GPx)-like interfacial catalytic activity, which results in a long-term, stable and adjustable range of NO release rates from the coating. Surface functionalization by this coating endows the cardiovascular stent with the abilities to impressively improve antithrombogenicity, promote regeneration of endothelium and inhibit restenosis.
