Extended Data Table 1 Results of indicator species analysis showing the functional groups that are strongly associated with the community states

From: Regime shifts in rocky intertidal communities associated with a marine heatwave and disease outbreak

  1. Community states are ranked from most abundant to least abundant (n = 3,703 surveys). For each functional group j in community state k, specificity measures the mean abundance of j in k compared to its mean abundance in other community states, fidelity measures the occurrence frequency of j in k, and the indicator value is the product of these quantities. Specificity is maximized at 1 when j is present in k only, fidelity is maximized at 1 when j is always present in k. Multiple comparisons were made among 17 functional groups and P values were adjusted using the Bonferroni correction, with significant P values in bold. See Methods and Legendre57 for more details.
