Extended Data Table 1 Criteria used to infer the origin of the HORBECs

From: Evolution and diversity of oxidoreductases involved in redox balance and energy conservation

  1. Png: percentage of the number of genomes possessing at least one copy of HORBEC on total number of genomes (401 for Bacteria and 4002 for Archaea), Pnc: percentage of the number of clades with at least one genome possessing at least one copy of HORBEC on total number of clades (75 for Bacteria and 68 for Archaea), Pngpc: average Png per clade. The number of genomes and number of clades is indicated between parentheses. Red: absent/low abundance (Png < 5%; Pnc and Pngpc < 25%), Orange: Medium abundance (5% < Png < 20%; 25% < Pnc and Pngpc < 50%), Green: high abundance (20% < Png; 50% < Pnc and Pngpc). For HdrABC and Nuo, some complete systems with scaterred genes have been identified and added to the Pnc. With regard to the split Archaea-Bacteria: Gray (N.A.): Non applicable because only one domain is represented, Red (-): archaeal and bacterial sequences are mixed, Orange (+/-): majority of archaeal and bacterial sequences are separated but still intermixed, Green (+): clear split between archaeal and bacterial sequences. The potential origin is indicated. LUCA: Last Universal Common Ancestor, LACA: Last Archaeal Common Ancestor, LBCA: Last Bacterial Common Ancestor.
