N = 14 studies were included (AN n = 354, HC n = 224). Zero (black line) is the line of no effect, and points to the right of zero indicate an elevation of IL-1β in AN compared to HCs. The red dotted line indicates the overall effect size. When removing outliers40,60,64 the SMD reduced to 0.23 and remained non-significant (p = 0.095). Error bars reflect 95% CIs.
