Dr. Marti Ortega-Ribera received his PhD in Medicine and Translational Research from the University of Barcelona (Spain) in 2021. He is currently a basic/translational postdoctoral research fellow in the laboratory led by Dr. Gyongyi Szabo at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Martis’ main research focuses on the pathophysiological mechanisms guiding alcohol-associated chronic liver disease and acute-on-chronic liver failure damage with special interest in inter-organ crosstalk. He is the inaugural recipient (2024) of the Laurence M. Blendis Travel Award in ACLF from the American Association for the study of the liver (AASLD), association for which he will serve as a Trainee for the Basic Research Committee during 2025-2027.
Gianluca Cipriani, PhD, Enteric neuroscience Program, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, United States
Dr. Cipriani earned his PhD from the University of Florence in Italy and completed his postdoctoral fellowships under the guidance of Dr. Gianrico Farrugia at Mayo Clinic. During his postdoctoral period, he received several honors, including the Lin Chang Travel Award and the Pilot and Feasibility Grant in Diabetic Complications from the NIH.
He currently leads his laboratory within the Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Cipriani's research focuses on understanding neuro-immune communication in gastrointestinal diseases.
