Direct plasma synthesis of a high-value C–N–O compound with inert N₂ and CH₄

A plasma-cascade strategy enables cyclohexanone cyanohydrin (Cy(OH)CN) synthesis via direct co-conversion of N₂ and CH₄ with cyclohexanone under mild and catalyst-free conditions. A 0.60 mmol h⁻¹ formation rate and 95.8% selectivity for Cy(OH)CN is achieved without using expensive NH₃ or toxic HCN.
