An ultraluminous quasar with a twelve-billion-solar-mass black hole at redshift 6.30

Observations of an ultraluminous quasar, SDSS J010013.02+280225.8, at redshift z = 6.30 show that the object has an optical and near-infrared luminosity a few times greater than those of previously known quasars at z > 6; the black hole that drives the quasar has a mass about 12 billion times that of the Sun.

EBV miRNAs BART11 and BART17-3p promote immune escape through the enhancer-mediated transcription of PD-L1

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded latent genes are reported to regulate PD-L1 expression to promote immune escape. Here, the authors show that EBV-encoded miRNAs EBV-miR-BART11 and EBV-miR-BART17-3p upregulate PD-L1 expression in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and gastric cancer by targeting FOXP1 and PBRM1.

Nanocluster superstructures assembled via surface ligand switching at high temperature

Synthesizing superstructures with precisely controlled nanoscale building blocks is challenging. Here the assembly of superstructures is reported from atomically precise Ce₂₄O₂₈(OH)₈ and other rare-earth metal-oxide nanoclusters and their multicomponent combinations. A high-temperature ligand-switching mechanism controls the self-assembly.
