Coloured opaque photovoltaic technologies can be used to create low-cost, high efficiency solar panels, which are more aesthetically pleasing than their uncoloured counterparts, making them ideal for integrated applications. This Perspective describes the materials used to achieve colouring and proposes a framework for designing and reporting coloured photovoltaic devices.
