Mechanochemistry-driven engineering of 0D/3D heterostructure for designing highly luminescent Cs–Pb–Br perovskites

While emission and stability of metal–halide perovskites can be enhanced through heterostructural encapsulation, a controlled synthesis route to such structures is not trivial to realize. Here, the authors design a mechanochemistry-driven protocol for synthesizing highly luminescent CsPbBr₃/Cs₄PbBr₆ heterostructures.

2D coherent charge transport in highly ordered conducting polymers doped by solid state diffusion

Small molecules diffusing into a thin film of thiophene-based conjugated polymers act as p-type dopants without altering the ordered microstructure of the film. As a result, free-electron-like charge transport is also observed at high doping levels.

The transport and relaxation mechanisms in organic semiconductors are still insufficiently understood, but measurements now show that in these materials polarons carry pure spin currents over extended distances with long relaxation times, and uncover the role of spin-orbit coupling in this process.

A single gene of a commensal microbe affects host susceptibility to enteric infection

The interactions between gut bacteria and enteric pathogens are poorly understood. Here, Yoon et al. show that subinhibitory antibiotic treatment in a mouse model leads to overgrowth of an E. coli strain carrying a catalase-encoding gene that enhances infection with the human pathogen Vibrio cholerae.

Long spin diffusion lengths in doped conjugated polymers due to enhanced exchange coupling

Measurements with a lateral spin pumping device architecture suggest that long spin diffusion lengths of more than 1 μm are possible in conjugated polymer systems that have a sufficiently high spin density.
