While tendon healing is robust in children, adult tendon injuries are repaired with fibrotic scarring. Here they show that PI3K-Akt signaling plays a pivotal role in physiological neonatal tendon regeneration and regulates the stemness of both Scx-lineage tenocytes and Tppp3-lineage paratenon sheath cells.
