  • Pla2g7 is a secreted enzyme mainly produced by myeloid cells and exerts a significant role in a spectrum of metabolic and inflammatory disorders. Here they show that Pla2g7 expression is enriched in osteoclasts and is associated with bone resorption, revealing an important role in bone homeostasis.

  • Glia abnormalities drive the progression of demyelinating diseases. Here, the authors show that reactivated astrocytes secrete clusterin to impede remyelination by blocking astrocytic removal of myelin debris and oligodendrocyte precursor cell differentiation in mouse models of demyelination.

  • Genomic and phenomic screens of 827 wheat landraces from the A. E. Watkins collection provide insight into the wheat population genetic background, unlocking many agronomic traits and revealing haplotypes that could potentially be used to improve modern wheat cultivars.

  • Regulating surface reconstruction is an important way to construct highly active catalyst for acidic water oxidation. Here the authors report high-valence Mo accelerates surface reconstruction of orthorhombic Pr3Ir1−xMoxO7 by activating lattice oxygen and cations, forming highly active and self-terminated Ir‒Obri‒Mo species with strong Brønsted acidity for acidic oxygen evolution reaction.

  • Genomic, transcriptomic and DNA methylation data from tissue samples from 208 Chinese patients with prostate cancer define the landscape of alterations in this population, and comparison with data from Western cohorts suggests that the disease may stratify into different molecular subtypes.

  • In an inter-laboratory study, the authors compare the accuracy and performance of three optical density calibration protocols (colloidal silica, serial dilution of silica microspheres, and colony-forming unit (CFU) assay). They demonstrate that serial dilution of silica microspheres is the best of these tested protocols, allowing precise and robust calibration that is easily assessed for quality control and can also evaluate the effective linear range of an instrument.
