Silicon carbide-derived carbon nanocomposite as a substitute for mercury in the catalytic hydrochlorination of acetylene

Acetylene hydrochlorination is an industrially important reaction but is, in many instances, still catalyzed by mercury chloride. Here, the authors report a nanocomposite of pyrrolic nitrogen-doped carbon capable of activating acetylene, which also exhibits promising performance in vinyl chloride formation.

Host protein ARF1 is a proviral factor for SARS-CoV-2 and a candidate broad-spectrum therapeutic target

Here, the authors report that SARS-CoV-2 M protein interacts with host ARF1 to facilitate viral assembly at the ER-Golgi intermediate compartment and demonstrate that targeting ARF1 or its interaction with the M protein disrupts virus production in vitro and in vivo, proposing a potential broad-spectrum therapeutic approach.

2D edge-seeded heteroepitaxy of ultrathin high-κ dielectric CaNb₂O₆ for 2D field-effect transistors

2D high-κ dielectric materials remain highly sought-after for the future development of 2D electronics. Here, the authors report a 2D edge-seeded heteroepitaxial growth strategy to synthesize CaNb₂O₆ thin films with equivalent oxide thickness down to 0.7 nm and show their application for high-performance 2D MoS₂ transistors.
