Functional and structural basis of a negative allostery within GABA_B hetero-tetramers

The GABA_B receptor is a mandatory heterodimer. Here authors show the existence of GABA_B dimers of dimers in neurons, and their relevance in human health. By solving the structure of this tetramer, they show the structural basis for a negative cooperativity between the dimers within such a complex.

Polycomb-mediated gene silencing by the BAH–EMF1 complex in plants

Two BAH-domain-containing proteins (SHL and EBS) form a complex with EMF1, reading and effecting the H3K27me3 mark in Arabidopsis. The BAH-EMF1c complex thus shows PRC1-like functions in higher plants.

Interpenetrating interfaces for efficient perovskite solar cells with high operational stability and mechanical robustness

Operational stability and mechanical robustness remain as engineering bottlenecks in perovskite solar cells technology. Here, Dong et al. introduce an interpenetrating perovskite at the electron-transporting-layer interface that enables a 1000-hour stable operation and high endurance against bending fatigue over 2500 cycles.

A cis cold memory element and a trans epigenome reader mediate Polycomb silencing of FLC by vernalization in Arabidopsis

Yuehui He and colleagues show that VAL1 and VAL2 bind to a cis-regulatory element at the FLC locus and are required for its epigenetic silencing during vernalization in Arabidopsis. They further report that VAL proteins recognize the repressive histone mark H3K27me3 and are necessary for genomic binding of the Polycomb silencing partner LHP1.

Arabidopsis FLC clade members form flowering-repressor complexes coordinating responses to endogenous and environmental cues

Flowering time is a critical developmental transition for a plant’s reproductive success and it depends on endogenous and environmental signals. Here Gu et al.show that MADS-domain floral repressors form protein complexes that coordinate Arabidopsis responses to these cues and regulate its flowering time.

Embryonic epigenetic reprogramming by a pioneer transcription factor in plants

The seed-specific transcription factor LEC1 promotes an active chromatin state at the floral repressor FLC and activates its expression in the Arabidopsis pro-embryo, thus reversing the winter cold-induced silenced state that is inherited from gametes.
