This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 3: Good Health & Wellbeing.

This journal collection focuses on advancements in cardiovascular tissue regeneration through bioengineering approaches, cell-base therapies, and other advanced technologies. Advancements in technologies and biomaterials to promote regeneration include organoid models, microphysiological systems, 3D bioprinting, tissue engineering, and engineered biomaterials that can be validated with preclinical models. Multi-omics and computational biology associated with disease pathologies can lead to fundamental insights with translational relevance. Therapies based on stem cells, small molecules, and other biologics that promote tissue regeneration are also of particular interest. The collection emphasizes the important role of intercellular interactions among cells/tissues and their surrounding extracellular matrix on disease pathology and tissue regeneration. These technologies, therapeutic strategies, and fundamental insights are applied to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, atherosclerosis, stroke, vascular dysfunction, and aortic aneurysm.

This Collection aims to integrate knowledge from fundamental biology, applied technologies, and preclinical models, offering new insights and potential therapeutic strategies to promote cardiovascular tissue regeneration.

The Collection will publish original research Articles, Reviews, Perspectives and Comments (full details on content types can be found here). Papers will be published in npj Biomedical Innovations as soon as they are accepted and then collected together and promoted on the Collection homepage. All Guest Edited Collections are associated with a call for papers and are managed by one or more of our Editorial Board Members and the journal's Editors.

This Collection welcomes submissions from all authors – and not by invitation only – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of npj Biomedical Innovations more generally. See our editorial process page for more details.

All submissions are subject to the same peer review process and editorial standards as regular npj Biomedical Innovations articles, including the journal’s policy on competing interests. The Guest Editors have no competing interests with the submissions, which they handle through the peer-review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Guest Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests. See our Collections guidelines for more details.
