A one-to-one digital replica of a locomotive parking brake system, fed by sensor data and analytics, demonstrated high-fidelity classification of emerging faults and proposed proactive maintenance schedules, thereby minimising unplanned downtime on freight corridors.
Network-science analyses of the global liner shipping system uncovered a modular core–periphery organisation that optimises transport efficiency while limiting route maintenance costs. Strategic “gateway-hub” ports were identified as pivotal connectors between regional modules, underscoring their role in sustaining global trade integration and revealing vulnerabilities in the system’s structure.
Complementary work quantified the economic criticality of world ports by coupling trade-flow simulations with supply-chain exposure data.
