Advances in artificial intelligence and data analytics have facilitated personalised risk detection and adaptive support, while the proliferation of Internet of Things architectures has improved interoperability and scalability. AAL technologies aim to address global challenges of population ageing by reducing hospital admissions, supporting chronic disease management and alleviating caregiver burden. Key considerations include user-centred design, ethical governance of data privacy and consent, accessibility across diverse cultural and socio-economic contexts, and integration with health and social care infrastructures. Although pilot studies have demonstrated feasibility and acceptance among many older users, barriers persist in terms of digital literacy, cost, standardisation of protocols and sustainable deployment at scale.
